A Review of Prayer in American Schools:
From the time the Pilgrims landed in 1620 until the Supreme court rulings of 1963, a span of 343 years, school prayer and Bible reading were common place in American Schools.  The Founding Fathers created the Bill of Rights in which they made protections for Religious Freedoms; stating that the government is forbidden from interfering with the People's Freedom to Worship God in the manor of their choosing.   This all changed when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that it was Unconstitutional for Children to Read the Bible and Pray to God in Public Schools.  At this point the Government more or less decided that the First Amendment did not mean what it says.  It was decided by the Court that the words, "Separation of Church and State" were more important then the words contained in the First Amendment.  To learn more about where the words "Separation of Church and State" came from, click on the top left link of  this screen.
